Wingman!

This years Wingman is over and it was a tremendous success! This year we raised over $14,000 to donate to our beneficiaries in addition to raising our level of service. 80% of the money stays in Columbia at the Mid Missouri Mental Health Center Children's Unit. The rest goes to Prevent Child Abuse America, Children's Hospital in Virginia, Orthapedic Research Grants and the Girl Scouts.

The following is a break down of the week:
Sunday-Spaghetti Dinner
Monday-Banners and King Candidate Interviews
Tuesday-Serenades and Service at Mid-Mo
Wednesday-Service again
Thursday-Penny Wars
Friday-Penny Wars again (we made $400!)
Saturday-WINGMAN GAMES! (25 teams total)

Thank you to everyone that donated time, service and money; none of it could have happened with out you. Wingman will be back in a year and even better than ever.

W-I-L-D WILDCATS!

It's finally senior year for the kids of High School Musical Three and they treated us to an encore performance Friday night at the Blue Note for Rock-it Finals.
The talented women of Kappa Delta placed third for their lip sync rendition of the musical. The main event for campus-wide philanthropy RAMS, Rocking Against Multiple Sclerosis, was packed shoulder-to-shoulder with performers and spectators.
Everyone that participated did a spectacular job and it looked like they all had a great time being on stage. Believe it or not, Megan Ogar was prettier than Zach Efron in sparkly red tuxedo pants!

Outstanding Members!

Congratulations to all the wonderful women of Epsilon Iota that are doing great things for the University of Missouri.

Christy Garofalo and Brooke Varner were named to the elite Mizzou 39. The is a distinguishing honor from the Mizzou Alumni Associate that recognizes 39 students each year for their service and leadership on campus. Christy was a Summer Welcome leader in 2008 and a member of Tour Team. Brooke was on Homecoming Steering Committee 2008. They were introduced to the student body at the Men's basketball game versus Nebraska on Feb. 16.

Andrea Smith and Danette Stumpe were selected to be part of Homecoming Steering Committee 2009. It is a very competitive group to become a part of, including two rounds of interviews.

We are so proud of these girls for working hard both inside and outside of our fantastic chapter.

Dad's Weekend

This past weekend, the father's of Kappa Delta were invited to Columbia for two days of bonding with their girls.
Friday night was casino night. It was hosted at the Upper Crust Ballroom downtown. There were dealers at the Blackjack table, and the poker tables were run by the groups playing. No real money was won or lost that night.
Saturday's pregame tailgate was chilly, but everyone still gathered in the Newman Center parking lot. Dad's and daughters then headed to the blackout football game versus Kansas State. Only the bravest survived in the cold past halftime.
Kappa Delta enjoyed another fantastic fall weekend with the Dad's in town!

Homecoming

The women of Kappa Delta placed second overall in Homecoming 2008. We took top honors in all of the talent, blood and service categories. This is the third year the KD has achieved the runner-up spot. We are all very proud to have maintained such a high level of success again this year.

Our house decorations were based on the movie Cars, and our float was based on Batman. Our members were very recognizable this year because we all wore matching white hats and carried sparkling spirit sticks.

Thank you to the man of Phi Kappa Theta for working so hard with us this semester. We all had a terrific time together.

Finals here we come

Congratulations to all of out fantastic skitters and dancers! After tonight's all-star performance Kappa Delta and Phi Kappa Theta will be performing again Thursday night.
This year the skit was a musical about making a skit. It was very funny and far from typical. The director character, Connor Cole, won best male lead.

Time to give, the greek way

I copied the tips for a good donation experience from the American Red Cross Web site. Take a look, and good luck Kappa Deltas!

Before Donating
-Get a good night’s sleep
-Have a good breakfast or lunch
-Drink extra water and fluids to replace the volume you will donate (avoid tea, coffee, or other beverages with caffeine)
-Eat iron-rich foods — red meat, fish, poultry or liver, beans, iron-fortified cereals, raisins and prunes
-Avoid fatty foods, such as hamburgers, fries, or ice cream before donating. Tests for infections done on all donated blood can be affected by fatty materials — lipids — that appear in your blood for several hours after eating fatty foods. When this occurs and required testing cannot be performed, the blood may need to be discarded.

During the Donation
-Wear clothing with sleeves that can be raised above the elbow
-Show the staff any "good veins" that have been used successfully in the past to draw blood
-Relax
-Take the time to enjoy a snack and a drink in the refreshments area immediately after donating

After Donation
-Rehydrate by drinking plenty of fluids over the next 24-48 hours
-Avoid strenuous physical activity or heavy lifting for about five hours after donation
-If you feel light headed, lie down, preferably with feet elevated, until the feeling passes
-In rare cases when bleeding occurs after removing the bandage, apply pressure to the site and raise your arm for 3-5 minutes; if bleeding or bruising occurs under the skin, apply a cold pack to the area periodically during the first 24 hours
-If for any reason, something doesn’t feel right, call the American Red Cross toll free number provided to you after your donation

Remember that you are doing a great thing and above all RELAX!
